What Is Dapoxetine?

Dapoxetine is a short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat premature ejaculation in men. It helps increase the time taken to ejaculate, enhancing overall sexual satisfaction.

History Of Dapoxetine

Originally developed by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, dapoxetine was designed as a fast-acting Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) for the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE). Initially, it was developed as an antidepressant, but was later used for treating PE due to its positive impact on ejaculation control.

In 2003, the rights to dapoxetine were sold to Johnson & Johnson, which further advanced its development. The following year, in 2004, Johnson & Johnson submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), aiming to gain approval for its use specifically in the treatment of PE.

Dapoxetine Brand Name

Dapoxetine is available as oral tablets. These are solid medications designed to be swallowed and absorbed through the digestive system. They contain active ingredients and inactive ingredients (binders, fillers, coatings).

Medical Uses Of Dapoxetine

Dapoxetine tablet uses include treating premature ejaculation (PE) in adult men aged 18 to 64. It enhances ejaculatory latency (time before ejaculation).

How Dapoxetine Works?

Dapoxetine increases serotonin activity in the nervous system, delaying the ejaculation reflex. This action helps in better control and reduces the stress or frustration associated with premature ejaculation.

The Dapoxetine Hydrochloride tablets 30 mg are recommended for beginners, and the higher dose, such as the Dapoxetine 60mg, may be prescribed if 30 mg is ineffective and well tolerated.
